New Report on the Impact of America's Biobased Products Industry

Economic Impact

A new report demonstrates how the U.S. biobased products industry's growth is generating substantial economic activity and American jobs.

According to An Economic Impact Analysis of the U.S. Biobased Products Industry, 4.2 million American jobs are supported through direct, indirect, and induced contributions. For every biobased industry employee in the U.S., nearly two other indirect jobs are supported.

The industry also contributed a total of $393 billion in value added to the U.S. economy, and has generated $127 billion in direct sales, with spillover sales totaling $266 billion.

This report is a follow-up to the 2015 report mandated by the 2014 Farm Bill, An Economic Impact Analysis of the U.S. Biobased Products Industry, which was the first Federally-sponsored economic report to examine and quantify the effect of the biobased products industry from an economics and jobs perspective at the national level.
